A festive decoration inspired by Gustav Ehrenreich and the optimistic philosophy
During the holidays, Bumble trades his serious look for an elf hat and starts spreading joy all around. He is one of the very first characters imagined by Gustav Ehrenreich, the Danish designer who launched the Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. He firmly believed in the power of a smile and wanted a figurine that would serve as a daily reminder to stay positive. The "happy 60s" were also a turbulent time, and this little dose of optimism arrived at just the right moment. Bimble and Bumble, the first two Hoptimists, became icons of Danish design and have been making people smile far beyond Denmark.
A Bumble Elf figurine with iconic round shapes
True to Ehrenreich's spirit, the Bumble Elf is built from a circle and an ellipse, creating round and friendly shapes. That was the Danish designer's original idea: to compose every Hoptimist from these two basic shapes, without angles or superfluous details. The circle forms the head, the ellipse the body, and from this very simple assembly a silhouette is born—instantly recognizable, pleasing to the eye, and a bit mischievous. This principle has remained the guiding thread of the Hoptimist family. It is found in both the classic figurines and the new generation creations, relaunched in 2009 with respect for the original vision. The Bumble Elf is a perfect example: beneath his Christmas hat, he retains the rounded volumes that make these characters so endearing, and that you just want to place everywhere, hold in your hands, and look at with a smile.

Elf hats, Santa beards, reindeer, and snowmen: the entire Christmas collection is here to help spread smiles during the holidays. Placed on a shelf, a desk, or the holiday table, the Bumble Elf adds a touch of humor to seasonal decorations. He also makes a lovely gift to thank your host, or to tuck into an Advent calendar. After all, joy is a true gift.
