Originally, Bumble is a small figurine. It is one of the very first characters designed by Gustav Ehrenreich, the Danish designer who launched the Hoptimist movement at the end of the 1960s. This decade, often nicknamed the "happy 60s," was also a turbulent time. Ehrenreich wanted to create a little character that would serve as a daily reminder that it is good to remain positive and optimistic, with a simple belief: one smile always leads to another. Today, Bumble keeps its attentive air and familiar silhouette, but it lights up and becomes a table lamp, to brighten the room and put whoever looks at it in a good mood.
This lamp is cordless. No more needing to be near a plug or dealing with cumbersome cables: you place it wherever you want. On a desk to work in pleasant light, in your favorite corner to read or relax, on a bedside table as a soft nightlight. You can also move it from one room to another depending on the time of day. Wherever it is, it fills the space with light, color, and comfort.
It operates very simply. A light press on the top of the lamp turns it on or off. A longer press adjusts the brightness: you choose the intensity that suits you—brighter for working, softer for the evening. No complicated buttons or remote controls, just a touch of your finger.
It takes 7 to 8 hours to charge with the provided USB-C cable. Once charged, the lamp can shine for up to 9 hours, depending on the brightness level you have chosen: the lower it is, the longer the battery life. Its power is 5W. One charge can therefore be enough for an entire evening, or even longer with dimmed lighting.
Like all Hoptimists, the lamp follows the basic principle intended by Ehrenreich: everything is built from a circle and an ellipse. This design choice gives Bumble its rounded volumes and welcoming look, without useless corners or details. Made of ABS and steel, it measures 23 cm in height and comes in two sizes, L and XL, to fit the space you have available, from a discreet desk corner to a more spacious piece of furniture.
Relaunched in 2009, Hoptimists are now part of the history of Danish design and are enjoying renewed success in Denmark and elsewhere. This lamp is a modern version, respecting the original spirit while adding a real function. It is a decorative object that provides light, and also an original gift for a living room, a child's bedroom, or an office.
