To ensure the longevity and beauty of your wooden furniture, regular maintenance adapted to its finish is essential. Here are some practical tips for effectively cleaning and protecting your wooden furniture.

1. Identify the wood finish:
Before starting the maintenance, it is crucial to determine the finish of your furniture, because each type requires specific care. The main finishes are:
  • Raw wood: untreated, without surface protection.
  • Waxed wood: covered with a layer of wax that nourishes and protects the wood.
  • Varnished wood: protected by a layer of varnish providing a smooth and shiny surface.
  • Lacquered wood: has a smooth and shiny surface thanks to the application of lacquer.

2. Regular cleaning:
  • Dusting: Use a soft microfiber cloth to remove dust. Start at the top of the furniture to avoid dust falling back onto surfaces that have already been cleaned. Lightly dampen the cloth to effectively capture dust.
  • Deep cleaning:
    • Raw wood: Prepare a solution of warm water and Marseille soap or black soap. Dip a soft brush in the solution, gently clean the wood, then rinse with clean water and dry immediately with a dry cloth.
    • Waxed wood: Dust with a soft cloth. To revive the shine, apply a new coat of wax suited to the shade of the wood, let dry, then polish with a wool cloth.
    • Varnished wood: Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use a sponge with soapy water, then dry immediately. Then apply a specific maintenance product for varnished furniture.
    • Lacquered wood: Clean with a soft damp cloth using circular motions, then dry immediately with a dry cloth. Avoid abrasive products that can scratch the surface.

3. Wood protection:
  • Avoid exposure to sunlight and humidity: Place your furniture away from direct sunlight and sources of humidity to prevent warping and fading.
  • Use suitable products: Regularly apply protective products such as oils, waxes or varnishes, depending on the finish of your furniture, to nourish the wood and protect it from external aggressions.

4. Natural tips:
  • Black soap: For raw and waxed wood, dilute black soap in warm water and clean with a soft sponge. Rinse and dry immediately.
  • Linseed Oil: For raw wood surfaces, apply linseed oil to nourish and protect the wood. Allow to dry and then buff with a soft cloth.

5. Additional precautions:
  • Avoid harsh products: Do not use products containing ammonia, alcohol or solvents, as they can damage the wood finish.
  • Protect surfaces: Use placemats, coasters and tablecloths to prevent stains and scratches. Avoid placing hot objects directly on the wood.

By following these recommendations, you will preserve the appearance and durability of your wooden furniture, allowing it to last through the years with elegance.
