Porcelain Care
To ensure the longevity and shine of your porcelain decorative objects, regular and proper maintenance is essential. Here are some practical tips for effectively cleaning and protecting your porcelain:
1. Regular cleaning:
- Hand washing: Use a soft sponge and a non-abrasive detergent to gently clean your porcelain pieces. Avoid the abrasive side of the sponge which could damage the decorations, especially those decorated with gold or platinum.
- Dishwasher: Modern porcelain can generally be washed in the dishwasher. However, it is recommended to use low temperature programs (not exceeding 60°C) and to avoid abrasive detergents. For pieces decorated with precious metals, hand washing is recommended.
2. Removing stubborn stains:
- Coffee or tea stains: Make a paste of baking soda and warm water. Apply it to the marks, scrub gently with a soft sponge or toothbrush, then rinse thoroughly.
- Grease stains: Use Marseille soap applied with a soft sponge to remove greasy residue. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a clean cloth.
3. Restore shine:
- Bleaching: To revive the shine of pieces yellowed by time, let them soak overnight in a solution composed of one glass of bleach to two liters of water. In the morning, rinse carefully and dry with a soft cloth.
- Shine: Gently dab the surface with a cloth dampened with household alcohol, then wipe with a clean cloth to make the porcelain shine.
4. Additional precautions:
- Thermal shocks: Avoid sudden temperature changes that can cause cracks. Do not move porcelain directly from the refrigerator to the oven or vice versa.
- Handling: Handle your porcelain items with care to prevent chips and cracks. Avoid excessive stacking which could cause damage.
By following these recommendations, you will preserve the beauty and durability of your porcelain decorative objects, allowing them to retain their shine over time.
